Weight 4 black acrylic yarn for eyes and nose embroidery
6mm crochet hook

Arms

We need to make the arms first as they will be crocheted onto the body later.
Make 2:
Start with accent colour:
R1. 4 sc in a mr (4)
R2. (inc)x4 (8)
Change to main body colour:
R3-5. sc around (8) (3 rounds)
R6. (2sc,dec)x2 (6)
Stuff the arms lightly. Flatted the top and slst 3 times through both sides of round 6 to close the arms shut.
FO, leaving a short yarn tail. Weave in loose ends.

Head

The head and body is crocheted as one piece. We will begin by making the head first.
Use main body colour:
R1. 6 sc in a mr (6)
R2. (inc)x6 (12)

R6-10. sc around (30) (5 rounds)
The hdc’s in the next round are the two cheeks – remember these stitches or use stitch markers to mark them as we’ll embroider the face in between them later.

I used weight 4 black acrylic yarn for the eyes and nose.

Eyes

See photo 3. Ensure the eyes are evenly placed in between the capybaras cheeks.
Embroider two horizontal lines two stitches wide, between rounds 9 and 10 of the head.
Position the eyes 6 stitches apart.

Nose

See photo 4. First, embroider a V shape on round 10 of the head, 2 stitches away from each eye.
Next, pull out your needle below your V shape, one stitch below. Insert the needle at the bottom of the V to create a vertical line.

Blush

Embroider pink yarn for blush underneath the eyes. Mine is two stitches wide and is placed between rounds 10 and 11 of the head.
Stuff the head firmly, making sure it is firm.

Body

Continue using main body colour:

In the next round we will be attaching each arm by crocheting them to the body with 3 inc’s – see photo 6.

Ears:
See photos 10, 11 and 12. Sew the ears starting on round 5 of the head, 2 stitches away from each eye.
Legs:
See photo 10. Sew the legs starting on round 19 of the body, around 4 stitches apart.
Mine took up rounds 19-22.

Flower hat

Start with stem colour:
R1. 6 sc in a mr (6)
R2-3. sc around (6) – 2 rounds.

Step 1: slst into the FLO of the next stitch.
Step 2: ch 4, starting from the 2nd ch from hook, 3 sc (3)
Repeat step 1 and 2 five more times. You should have a total of 6 leaves.
Change to flower colour:
